Bloch Scholarships

The Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration awards more than $130,000 annually to its students.

General Scholarship Information

  • The Bloch Student Services Office will accept completed scholarship applications from January 1st - February 1st at 5:00 p.m. (unless otherwise noted).
  • Applications that are not complete will not be considered.
  • Decisions will be made by scholarship committees composed of faculty members, usually no later than the end of winter semester.
  • Students are notified by e-mail soon after decisions are made.

Financial Information

  • Final award amounts will not be available until the time the awards are given unless otherwise noted.
  • Although students are not prohibited from receiving more than one Bloch School scholarship, the scholarship committees attempt to distribute awards to the greatest number of students.
  • Scholarships are awarded on a yearly basis, half of the amount disbursed each semester (fall and winter), unless otherwise specified.
  • Scholarships specifying financial need require eligibility for federal financial aid as determined by the UMKC Financial Aid Office.
  • Students who receive awards designated as “renewable” must reapply for the award the next year and also must continue to meet the stated requirements in order to be renewed for a second year.

Master of Science in Accounting students emphasizing in tax accounting.

Ralph O. Linville Scholarship

Entering junior in Accounting from one of the Kansas City metropolitan area community colleges or UMKC’s College of Arts and Sciences. Selection based upon potential for professional success and financial need.

$1,200 Renewable

Other Accounting Awards

A variety of additional scholarships and awards are received annually by outstanding undergraduate and graduate accounting students. These scholarships are provided by international and regional accounting firms, the department itself, and alumni. All awards are based on merit. Criteria includes academic performance, demonstrated leadership, and professional service. Supporting organizations may establish additional criteria. Interested students should contact the Department of Accountancy for details.

Full-time undergraduate students in the Bloch School with outstanding academic records.

Full-time undergraduate students in the Bloch School with outstanding academic records.

Martin Daneman Scholarship

Undergraduate business student interested in general management with leadership skills and volunteer experience. Preference given to students who are of African-American, Hispanic or Native American heritage.

Ernest A. Dick Memorial Fund Scholarship for International Study

Award given to undergraduate or graduate student in the Bloch School for Study Abroad opportunity. Application and further details available through the office of International Academic Programs.

Thomas H. Holcom “Make A Difference” Scholarship

Full-time undergraduate or graduate student in the Bloch School. Selection is based on academic achievement, community involvement, professional excellence and financial need. Student will be at least a junior, hold a minimum 3.0 GPA and have a proven track record in community and volunteer activities during college career. Student shall be employed while attending college, preferably in a position that compliments their degree.

John Sublett Logan Foundation Scholarship

Several awards are available for new students in the MBA, MPA & MSA programs admitted in fall, spring, or summer 2008 semesters. Selection is based on academic achievement, commitment to giving back to the community and admittance to MBA, MPA or MSA program. 3.0 cumulative GPA is required.

Dustin Roderick Olson Scholarship

Award given to a full-time undergraduate or graduate Bloch School student based on a combination of scholastic merit and financial need. Applicants should have 3.0 cumulative GPA and work at least 20 hours per week while raising a family. Limited to two semesters.

Caroline E. Schutte Scholarship

Award is given to top female business students enrolled full-time. Preference is given to students in the junior year.

Edward A. Smith Urban Leadership Internship Program This internship opportunity will provide several students with a full time, paid internship for one semester, as well as faculty mentoring in leadership development. Detailed information and the application are available for download here. Please note this is a separate application from the Bloch Scholarship application and is due March 10, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. $5,000 for ten weeks, plus two hours elective college credit.

Student Entrepreneur of the Year

Upper level undergraduate or graduate student with 3.0 GPA. Honored at the Entrepreneur of the Year award dinner. Detailed information can be found here. Completed applications are due at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2008. This award uses the Bloch Scholarship application, available above.

Study Abroad Scholarships Undergraduate and graduate students in the Bloch School participating in Bloch-sponsored study abroad. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need. Varies

Kevin Vance Memorial Scholarship in Business

Undergraduate or graduate student in business administration.

Robert L. Greene Scholarship

Full time junior/senior student majoring in finance or economics. Selection based on scholastic merit, leadership ability, and financial need. Renewable as long as the student remains full time in undergraduate finance or economics.

Available to graduate students interested in commercial lending and credit administration.

Undergraduate or graduate business students with an emphasis in finance.

Graduate students with an emphasis in marketing.

Marketing Communications, Inc. Direct Marketing Scholarship

Full-time senior or graduate student with interest in direct marketing and a 3.0 GPA. Financial need required.

Full-time senior or graduate student with interest in marketing and a 3.0 GPA. Financial need required.

Valentine-Radford Direct Marketing Scholarship

Graduate student with interest in direct marketing. Merit-based. Work-study program may be available.

ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR/LEADERSHIP & CHANGE

 

Maudie and Jim Miller Scholarship in OB and Management

Two separate scholarships are available: one for a full-time junior who has an intent to complete an emphasis in Leadership & Change or Org Behavior in the MBA or MPA program; and one award for a full-time graduate student with an emphasis in Leadership and Change in Human Systems in the MBA or OB in the MPA.

SIOR Foundation Educational Scholarship

The SIOR Foundation will award two scholarships for the 2008-09 academic year to Bloch School students interested in the commercial real estate field. Detailed information and an application can be found here. The deadline is Monday, August 18 at 5:00 pm.
