Brown holds the Valentine Radford/Missouri Professorship of Marketing at the Bloch School of Business and Public Administration at UMKC. Brown received a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama with a major in marketing and minors in statistics and quantitative methods.

Brown's current research interests include customer relationship management, internet marketing, sales management and the market orientation of organizations. Brown regularly conducts research and consulting for both profit and non-profit organizations of all sizes.

Brown has published more than 70 articles in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Business Research, the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, the Journal of Business Ethics, the Journal of Advertising, and others. Brown is a frequent speaker at various marketing conferences. He has served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
