Transfer CreditThe Bloch School helps many students transfer into our programs every semester. Coming to UMKC is a painless process if you plan ahead--and this page can help you do just that. Three easy steps:1. Print out an advising sheet.
2. Get a list of course equivalencies. Below is a table of course equivalencies from Kansas City area community colleges. If you've received college credit from an institution other than those listed, click here to go to the UMKC Registrar's Office homepage. In the left hand navigation, select 'course equivalency', and then 'transfer student'. Universities with reviewed courses will be listed. 3. Fill in the blanks. Working with your college transcripts, a blank evaluation, and a course equivalency list, you should be able to get a good idea of the courses you've taken that are the equivalent of UMKC courses counting toward either our BBA or BSA degree programs. If you have questions, contact one of our academic advisors, either via email, or stopping by our office during walk-in advising hours. For directions to campus and a downloadable map, click here. Course equivalency--Kansas City community collegesThe table below contains course equivalencies for the following Kansas City community colleges: the Metropolitan Community Colleges (including Blue River, Longview, Maple Woods, and Penn Valley) (MCC); Johnson County Community College (JCCC); Kansas City, Kansas Community College (KCKCC); and Donnelly Community College. The courses below cover approximately 60 hours out of a 123-credit hour BBA or BSA program. This information uses the new Bloch School course designators, effective Summer 2007. Click here for a guide to new/old courses.
* BBA students coming from JCCC must take both BUS 261 and BUS 263 to satisfy the MGT 306 requirement. (MGT 320 is not required for the BBA degree). BSA students coming from JCCC may take BUS 261 to satisfy the MGT 306 requirement, and BUS 263 to satisfy the MGT 320 requirement. Additional requirements: Natural Science (8 hrs): Any eight credit hours from biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, astronomy, geology, physical science, etc. Courses must include at least one laboratory component. Social Science (6 hrs): Any three hours from psychology, sociology, administration of justice, or political science, and three hours which cover the U.S. and Missouri constitutions (American History I or II, or Political Science: American Government). Non-business electives (4-7 hours): Excludes developmental, practical arts, vocational, or military science courses, and no more than 2 credit hours may be physical education courses. Microsoft Specialist Certification in both Excel and PowerPoint is required before being admitted to the junior/senior portion of either the Bloch BBA or BSA programs, as well as being a prerequisite of MIS 203 if taken at UMKC. Certification means passing an exam in both areas, and proof of passing the exams must be submitted to the Bloch Student Services Office. Detailed information is available here. For ease of transfer to UMKC, students at community colleges should follow an Associate of Arts curriculum and take only the specific business courses recommended by UMKC. If you have questions about whether a course will transfer, contact the Bloch Student Services office before enrolling in the course(s). The information presented above explains how courses from other institutions have typically been accepted and applied to degree programs at UMKC. It does not represent a contractual agreement between UMKC and any other college or university, nor does it imply a contract between UMKC and any student. |
