Business Minor

Whether you’re studying at UMKC to be an engineer or an artist, interested in psychology or DNA, business skills and training are needed for every career. One of the ways you can prepare yourself for success is through the Business Minor at the Bloch School at UMKC. Here you will learn more about why the Business Minor is a great option for all UMKC students, and how to get started.

18 credit hours of ranked and accredited business education courses covering topics in accounting, marketing and management.

  MIS 203: Computer Applications for Business 
 
(Microsoft Specialist Certification in Excel and PowerPoint)

  ACTG 210: Financial Accounting (30 hours; MATH 110)

  MKT 324: Marketing Concepts

  FIN 325: Financial Management (ACTG 210)

  MGT 330: Understanding the Individual in the Organization

Business elective:

 
  One 300/400 level course (prerequisites as applicable) OR

  ENT 215: Entrepreneurship: An Introduction

How do I get started? 

  1. Get Microsoft Certification in Excel and PowerPoint. (What's this?)
  2. Take MIS 203: Computer Applications for Business (MS Certification is a prerequisite for this course).
  3. Take ACTG 210: Financial Accounting (30 credit hours, MATH 110 are prerequisites)
  4. Come to the Bloch School Student Services Office . You must see an advisor before enrolling in Bloch classes.

Notes:

  • Students are required to be in good standing in a UMKC degree program. Students classified as ‘pre-‘ can enter the minor but it cannot be added to the student’s program of study until a major has been declared.
  • Transfer students with equivalent course credit will be required to take a more advanced course in the same area.
  • BLA students are eligible for this minor.
  • Students cannot be pre-business or pre-accounting majors.
  • Students minoring in business are limited to 30 hours of Bloch School courses.
  • Students much achieve a minimum GPA of 2.25 in all Bloch School courses.
  • All 18 hours must be completed at the Bloch School
